Political Parties in Morocco


The Istiqlal Independence party is a Moroccan Political Party. It conserves the monarchist and it’s a member of the centrist democrat international. The Istiqlal was founded in the 1940s; it was the main political force that was struggling for the Moroccan independence. The party’s leader was Allal Al Fassi. The Moroccan independence won’t be complete if they had not liberated all the territories that were part of morocco. Allal made this happen by sending a letter in 1951 to Ahmed Belbachir the right hand of the caliph (representative of the state in his neighbourhood) Spanish Morocco. In his letter he wrote that he wanted to help prevent the Spanish morocco to obtain their independence separately. The achieved independence in 1956 made the party move into an opposition position against the monarchy. In the beginning, the Istiqlal was a bourgeois/wealthy people group. But now the group is very popular and is in the opposition against in the French and they are part of the independence.

The socialist Union of Popular Forces is a political party in morocco. It was formed as a breakup from the UNFP. The USFP is the fifth largest party in the parliament. The government of prime minister Abass al Fassi formed on October 15, 2007 included this political party. In the parliament election on September 27, 2002 the party won 50 out of 325 seats. The socialist union are in a group called the left/the socialist they are opposed to the capitalism unlike the right group. All the high students the old college Moroccan students support this group of socialists who want to make changements.

The justice and development party is the largest opposition political party in Morocco. The PJD (abbreviation for the justice and development party) helps the Islamism and Islamic democracy. This party was founded by Abdelkrim Al Khatib an old politician who is known for his close ties with the monarchy. This is called the MPDC (the popular movement of democracy and constitution). The justice party are all the Muslims who support this group.

The Independence national union is a Moroccan political party founded in 1978. Its general secretary is Mustapha Mansouri. During the legislative elections in September 17, 2002 the party had 41 seats in the parliament which made it fourth position in the political kingdom after the USFP. The RNI is represented by three ministers. This party is the independent people who support this group.

The authentic modern political party created the august 7, 2008 by the fusion of five Moroccan political parties. This fusion had been created by Fouad Ali El Himma. He is the ex-minister delegate and the king Mohamed 6’s personal friend. This political party has been initiated by the parliament independent group. This party is the new independents and the new power party.
